Services

WATcloud offers a variety of services. This page provides an overview of the services available.

General Access instructions

Access to most1 services listed below can be requested via the onboarding form. Requests will be reviewed by your group's WATcloud contact.

WATcloud contact

A WATcloud contact is a designated person within each group (usually the group lead) who is responsible for approving access request and assisting users during the onboarding process. The following groups are registered with WATcloud:

If your group is not listed or shows up as [Legacy]2, please ask your group lead to register the group with WATcloud.

Service Directory

Compute Cluster

The WATcloud compute cluster is a collection of machines that can be used for research, academic, or personal projects by members of the University of Waterloo and partnering organizations.

Please refer to the compute cluster documentation for detailed information on the available resources and how to use them.

GitHub (WATonomous)

WATcloud handles user provisioning and access control for the WATonomous GitHub organization (opens in a new tab).

After your request is approved, you will receive an invite to join the organization. You can also use the following link to accept the invite: https://github.com/orgs/WATonomous/invitation (opens in a new tab).

Google Workspace (WATonomous)

WATcloud handles user and group (mailing list) provisioning for the WATonomous Google Workspace.

WATonomous leads are responsible for managing the business logic (e.g. which groups to create, who can join them).

After your request is approved, you will be able to log into (opens in a new tab) Google Workspace using the email address and initial password specified in the form. If you did not specify an initial password, you can use the "Forgot password?" button on the login page to have a password reset link sent to your recovery email.

Jira (WATonomous)

WATcloud handles user provisioning for the WATonomous Jira instance.

After your request is approved, please visit WATonomous Jira (opens in a new tab) and use the password reset functionality to set your initial password.

WATcloud Internal Tools

WATcloud exposes some internal tools using Teleport (opens in a new tab).

After your request is approved, you can log into the Teleport instance (opens in a new tab) using your GitHub account.

UWaterloo GitLab (WATonomous)

WATcloud handles user provisioning for the WATonomous group (opens in a new tab) in the UWaterloo GitLab instance (opens in a new tab).

An existing UWaterloo GitLab account is required to use this service. After your request is approved, you will receive an invite to join the group.

Discord (WATonomous)

WATcloud handles role provisioning for the WATonomous Discord server.

The WATonomous team manages the business logic (e.g. role permissions, channel access).

After your request is approved, the requested roles will be assigned to you in the WATonomous Discord server (opens in a new tab).

Finance System (WATonomous)

WATcloud handles user provisioning for the WATonomous finance system.

The finance system is currently under development. Please reach out to the WATonomous finance team for more information.

Sentry (WATonomous)

WATcloud handles user and project provisioning for the WATonomous Sentry organization. Teams at WATonomous can request for new projects to be created.

After your request is approved, you will receive an email invite to join the WATonomous Sentry organization (opens in a new tab).

Azure (WATonomous)

WATcloud handles user and workload provisioning for the WATonomous Azure subscription. WATonomous members can request to run workloads on Azure.

After your request is approved, you can log in with the provided credentials at Azure Portal (opens in a new tab). Your login name is <username>@watonomous.onmicrosoft.com. You will be asked to change your password upon first login.

WATcloud Public Profile

WATcloud collects information from team members to create public profiles on the WATcloud website (e.g. for blog authors/reviewers) and affiliate websites (e.g. the WATonomous website).

Your WATcloud username (from the general section of the onboarding form) will be used as your blog username.

  1. If a service requires a different access process, it will be mentioned in the service description.

  2. A legacy affiliation is a group that was onboarded before the current registered affiliations system was in place. Members of legacy affiliations can still access the compute cluster, but in order to use newer features like SLURM, the group must be registered.
